The quilt will take Alice MORE THAN 80 HOURS!! to complete. Alice has already designed and pieced the quilt top together, and will be adding the quilting pattern using her Statler, a high-tech quilting machine by Gammill®. The professional machine, which runs about $30K, employs cutting-edge computer software that enables Alice to create custom layouts, and view them on screen, before she makes a single stitch. This gives her complete control over every bit of the quilting process.
“I love creating and designing,” says Alice, who opened her business, AJL Creations, in 2007. “The exciting part of the business is that I’m always learning new techniques and technologies to stay current.” Alice spends a lot of time on custom quilting orders, which she calls “timeless treasures.” Many of her customers are new parents and newly married couples seeking to mark their special moment with a custom quilt, either for their wall or bed. Alice also teaches quilting and Brazilian embroidery , and trains professional quilters on the ins and outs of the Statler's computer programming. "It's an honor to have been asked to make this one-of-a-kind quilt for the Tour de Coop," says Alice. "Ihope whoever wins it enjoys owning it as much as I've enjoyed working on it. It's been a fun challenge, for sure!" To reach Alice about her quilting services and classes, contact her at 907/360-1939 or [email protected] .
