Plans for the upcoming 2017 McKinney Tour de Coop (April 29, 9am-2pm), the annual educational tour of urban chicken coops in and around McKinney, Texas, are furiously underway. One to-do just finished: create an image to decorate the event T-shirts.
Tour de Coop Founder Yvonne Evans challenged McKinney mixed-media artist Kim Guthrie to birth a visual with a vintage feel. Kim’s 20x20 painting, which she created using oil with palette, features a chicken astride an old-fashioned bicycle. Kim’s artistic style: “Whimsical art for the young at heart.” Though Kim just moved to the Historic McKinney community in July, she has gained a local following for her signature piece, a delightful papier-mâché chicken attached to a coiled spring. Kim calls these grin-inspiring ladies—wait for it—her “Spring Chickens.” To view Kim’s Spring Chickens and other art prior to the Tour de Coop, visit her new studio in Orisons Art & Framing (110 E. Louisiana St.) on the Square. Kim’s art, along with that of other participating artists, will be on display and for sale at a designated coop on Saturday, April 29. The Tour de Coop still needs volunteers! Want to help out? Sign up on the Coop website, or contact Yvonne at [email protected] or 469.363.7546. See you there! Cluck! Cluck! |
